Building A Road

The RM has a standard specification for road construction within its road allowance. RM roads sit inside a 30-metre right-of-way (ROW), and the standard road crossing section detail sets out how a road is to be built within that space — the running surface, shoulder and slope profiles, and ditching required for proper drainage and long-term durability.

Any road or crossing built in the RM must follow this standard.

Building an Approach

Building a new approach off of an RM road — or making changes to an existing one — requires approval.

The RM has set approach criteria and construction specifications to make sure every access point is safe, properly drained, and built to a consistent standard across the municipality.

Separate criteria apply depending on the type of approach:

• Agricultural / acreage approaches
  for farmland and residential acreage access

• Commercial approaches
  for business, industrial, and higher-traffic access

Both types must meet the RM's specifications and be approved by Council before construction. Reviewing the criteria before you apply helps your approach get approved without delays.
