Developing in the RM of Estevan

Most new construction, additions, changes in land use, and relocations in the RM require a development permit before work can start. The permit confirms that what you're planning fits the RM's Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan — things like setbacks from property lines and roads, allowed uses in your zoning district, and lot coverage.

You'll generally need a development permit to:

  • Build or move a home, cabin, or accessory building onto a property
  • Construct a shop, shed, garage, or other structure over
  • Start a commercial, industrial, or home-based business
  • Change how a property is used
  • Relocate a building onto or off of a property
  • Demolish a building

 

How to apply:

  1. Contact the RM office to confirm your property's zoning and what's required.
  2. Complete the appropriate application (see Applications & Forms).
  3. Submit your application, a site plan, and the applicable fee.
  4. The Development Officer reviews your application.
  5. Once approved, you'll receive your development permit and can proceed.
